General Information

The Information Resource Center ( IRC), using both electronic and print materials provides information about the United States, its people, and its policies to promote mutual understanding, culture and information exchange between the United States and Rwanda.

We offer a range of resources, programs and services to provide accurate and up-to-date information on contemporary American politics and society, international relations, U.S. economy and on global issues such as human rights, communications, environment, media, women issues etc. We serve people from all walks of life that include University Students and Teachers, Researchers, Government Officials, politicians, media representatives, and businessmen and women. We serve enrolled members and walk-in patrons, answer telephone queries, reply to mail and e-mail inquiries. Our library is open to the public for reference, research and borrowing facilities. In addition to books we provide a showcase for state-of-the-art American information technology.

Video Lending in IRC

The IRC (LIBRARY) has a small collection of educational Video Tapes (in PAL format) for loan to patrons. Members may borrow two tapes at a time for a period of  7 days. Both books and Video tapes are in English or French.

Internet Corner

In order to provide information about the U.S. beyond the confines of its own collection, the IRC has installed computers terminals with full Internet access. The Internet Corner is designed to provide free internet-based computer reference facilities to all registered library patrons.

Note: Internet access is for research purposes only.

It tracks the Evolution of the United States from Columbus' first explorations through today. References over 1000 divers source materials and includes over 15 presidential speeches.

It provides portraits, facts and biographies of each of the 42 Presidents of the United States.

It provides more than 40,000 articles and thousands of multimedia images. Encarta Encyclopedia articles include text, pictures, video, audio, animation clips and more.

EBSCO MasterFILE Premier
This vast database includes searchable full text for over 1,810 journals dating as far back as January 1990, abstracts and indexing for over 2,780 journals, many dating back to 1984.

GaleNet is a one-stop shopping database for Gale Research products available on the World Wide Web. This covers Encyclopedia of Associations; Contemporary Authors; Research Centers and Services Directories; Directories of Publications & Broadcast Media; Gale Directory of Databases; Biography & Genealogy Master Index; Gale Business Resources.

Leadership Directories
Leadership Directories - the Leadership Library on the Internet - is a comprehensive data base of who's who in the leadership of the United States, updated weekly. It covers 400,000 American leaders of government, business and the professions.

Lexis-Nexis
Online full text legal, news and business information from over 3,200 legal and business publications.

ProQuest Direct
It provides access to over 400 full text periodicals in the following formats: citations, abstracts, full text, image and image/text. Image is not available for all the 400 periodicals. It also provides citations and/or abstracts of over 1600 periodicals and newspapers including New York Times.

STAT-USA
The U.S. Department of Commerce Economics and Statistics Administration supports this online information resource. It contains crucial and timely business and economic information produced by Federal agencies.


Membership

Membership (at no cost) is open to professional at Universities (public & private), business, Government, media and the law, non-governemental organizations, as well as students registered at tertiary institutions.
